Cliff Wilson Named CEO of Southern Tennessee Regional Health System’s Winchester and Sewanee Campuses

August 16, 2019

Southern Tennessee Regional Health System (STRHS) today announced that Cliff Wilson has been named chief executive officer (CEO) of its Winchester and Sewanee campuses, effective August 26. Wilson, who has served as the hospitals’ chief operating officer (COO) and ethics and compliance officer since April 2017, replaces retiring CEO Russ Spray.

“Cliff is a highly experienced healthcare leader who has proven himself to be a key champion for operational excellence and enhancing quality and patient safety,” said Robert Wampler, president of LifePoint Health’s Mountain Division, of which STRHS is a part. “He has been an integral part of the STRHS leadership team since he joined in 2017, and we are confident in his ability to continue to accelerate the hospitals’ momentum in the years ahead.”

In addition to his most recent role as COO, Wilson also served as interim CEO of the STRHS-Lawrenceburg campus from November 2018 to March 2019. A long-time leader within LifePoint Health, Wilson served in several roles at Rockdale Medical Center – a former LifePoint facility in Conyers, Georgia – prior to his time at STRHS, including as assistant administrator; senior director, physician services; group practice administrator and regional director. Before that, he was director of professional recruitment and development for Southeastern Integrated Medical, PL in Gainesville, Florida, and market manager for HCA Physician Services in Gainesville, Florida.

“The board is very excited about the appointment of Cliff Wilson as the next CEO of STRHS – Winchester and Sewanee,” said Eric Hartman, chairperson of the board of trustees. “Cliff has already demonstrated his commitment to the well-being of our communities and to the medical staff and employees of Southern Tennessee Regional Health System. He recruited an effective administrative team as our COO, and he's had the benefit of working with a seasoned and effective CEO, Russ Spray. While we will miss Russ and greatly appreciate his steady leadership, it's easy to move forward knowing that Cliff will lead us. He is uniquely suited to carry on the hospitals’ legacy of providing high quality care, and the board has full confidence in his leadership abilities.”

Wilson earned a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management from Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Utah, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He lives in Franklin County with his wife, Stephanie, and they have four children: Lydia, Natalie, Audrey and Camron. He is a member of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce and – along with his wife – a graduate of Leadership Franklin County.

“I am so thankful for Russ Spray and his tremendous leadership at STRHS, and I am excited to have the opportunity to carry on his work and lead these campuses into the future,” said Wilson. “We have an incredible team of employees, medical staff, volunteers and board members, and I look forward to continuing our work together to enhance patient safety and quality care for our neighbors and advance our mission of Making Communities Healthier.”
