Inpatient Rehab Patient Success Story: Joanne Davis
September 22, 2022
Joanne Davis was at home on Sunday, May 22, 2022 when she tripped over her dog and fell. She knew instantly that she had broken her hip. An ambulance was called and Joann was taken to the Emergency Department at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System in Winchester. Keith Brown, MD was the orthopedic surgeon on call that day. That same night, Dr. Brown performed Joanne’s surgery to repair her hip fracture and she was admitted to the medical-surgical unit at Southern Tennessee to recover. On May 24, 2022, Joanne was transferred to the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Southern Tennessee to begin her journey to improve her strength and mobility.
Joanne speaks very highly of the care she received at Southern Tennessee - from the Emergency Department to Inpatient Rehab. She said, “I was so happy to be able to stay in my community and receive the outstanding level of care that I did. The inpatient rehab team treated me like a queen. I was blown away by the staff's kindness and their passion for healing. It was nice to get to know my caregivers and they were so friendly and excited about the work that they were doing. Everyone went out of their way to make me feel welcome and comfortable.”
Joanne discharged home on June 3, 2022. In just 10 days, Joanne was able to go from being mostly dependent to walking 150 feet with a walker, dressing and bathing herself and walking up and down a flight of stairs with no assistance. She has returned to her normal activities, including driving, walking with no assistive device and leisure activities.
